Many practicing alcoholics know their desperate need for AA but are reluctant to do anything about it as they feel their friends would ridicule them, and so they continue drinking and making themselves ridiculous.

Too many of us put too much emphasis on the reactions of people whose reactions are not worth considering.

Just for today, I cannot unleash the destruction of feelings whose power is more than negative: they can be devastating and crack the foundation of recovery and sobriety. If I am angry, I will not respond emotionally and instead will detatch and ask as an observer rather than a participant if my anger is logical; if it is, I will deal with it unemotionally; if it isn't, I will let it go. If I am lonely, I will remember that loneliness
